12. Pugh Capital Managment Inc.

Founded by Mary Pugh in 1991, Pugh Capital Management Inc. is the largest minority- and woman-owned fixed income investment firm on the West Coast. Since its inception, Pugh has grown the Seattle-based firm from one client–Washington Mutual Bank–and $5 million in assets under management to 20 clients and $1 billion in assets under management.

Absent from the 2008 BE Asset Managers list, Pugh Capital Management made headlines when its president and CEO resigned from the Washington Mutual board of directors. Pugh, who sat on the board for nine years, stepped down amid WaMu’s $1.1 billion first quarter loss.
