TALLINN, Estonia (AP) — Carolina Kostner of Italy has won gold at the European Figure Skating Championships for the third time.
The Italian started off her free program strongly on Saturday with a triple flip-triple toe combination followed by a triple lutz. She then ran into trouble, singling an intended triple and then falling on a triple loop. Georgia’s Elene Gedevanishvili got higher technical marks, but was nearly six points behind Kostner on the components of her program and ended with bronze.
Finland’s Laura Lepisto, last year’s champion, took silver.
