Jay-Z & Co. Rename the N.J. Nets and Announce Eight-Concert Series

Yesterday, Jay-Z,  hip-hop’s reigning cash king and minority owner of the New Jersey Nets announced that the basketball team will  now become the Brooklyn Nets. It’s kind of a no-brainer that the team will take the name of Jay-Z’s home borough and the location of their new home court, the currently under construction, Barclay’s Center. Though some fans had hoped for a slightly more creative new name for the team (the “Brooklyn Stoops” anyone?) Brooklynites will have to settle for the obvious choice. As part of the part of the opening festivities for the new arena Hov will play eight concerts with special guests (maybe he and Beyonce’s baby?) there in fall 2012 when the arena officially opens for business on September 28.
