Sonja D. Brown is managing editor of BlackEnterprise.com and ancillary editorial for BLACK ENTERPRISE. In her role, she oversees the day-to-day operations of BlackEnterprise.com. She also coordinates and oversees the production of the event journals and daily newsletters for the company’s networking events: the Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Conference + Expo hosted by General Motors and ExxonMobil, the Black Enterprise/Pepsi Golf & Tennis Challenge, and the Black Enterprise Women of Power Summit hosted by State Farm®. This includes the production of Teenpreneur, a ‘zine that targets teenaged entrepreneurs, which is produced each year as a component of the Entrepreneurs Conference.
Brown’s responsibilities include managing the production of all ancillary projects and initiatives, and writing and editing for all marketing and public relations materials and all corporate correspondence generated by the company’s officers. She also created the company’s in-house newsletter, the BE Buzz.
Brown began her career at BLACK ENTERPRISE in 1997 as the editorial assistant. She supported the executive management team of the editorial department and also reported and wrote for the magazine. She continued to write and went on to serve as a fact checker and copyeditor before becoming associate editor of ancillary editorial. Prior to BLACK ENTERPRISE she worked in advertising sales at Reader’s Digest Publishing and Weider Publications.
Brown graduated from State University of New York, College at Oswego with a bachelor’s degree in English/Writing Arts. She’s a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and a volunteer with the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship.
