Bravo’s Version of the Black Brady Bunch, The Tankards, Debuts

Self-dubbed as the “Black Brady Bunch,” Ben Tankard and family will make their debut in the new docu-series, Thicker Than Water, about their Nashville family with strong religious conviction. Thicker Than Water joins the Real Housewives of Atlanta, one of Bravo’s most popular shows for the past five seasons, as the latest in the network’s lineup targeting African American audiences. The series will premiere November 10, airing Sundays (9 pm EST) on Bravo.

The show follows Tankard, who is a former professional basketball player turned popular gospel/jazz recording artist and minister, his blended family and their journey in expanding the family fortune. The husband and father of five strives to stay on top his game, balancing his work in the church, his musical aspirations and his forthcoming clothing line.

Tankard’s wife, Jewel, is a financial planner. Together they are self-made millionaires who also run a Christian ministry, Destiny Center. The Tankard children, although grown-up, still live at home and must abide by their parents’ rules.

The Tankards must make sense of the role religion plays in their decisions, businesses, and personal lives.

Bravo’s newest southern family integrates their strong religious conviction with their penchant for the finer things in life. With the belief that “God wants us all to be millionaires,” the Tankards aim to be the best and brightest in everything they do.

According to Bravo, along with the Tankards’ financial drive comes a healthy dose of rivalry proving the adage, “You can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family.”

The Tankard clan includes their blended and extended family as they live, love and laugh through the perils and pleasures of life, proving that blood is “Thicker Than Water.”

In a released statement, Tankard said, “I am blessed to have the world’s most exciting blended family, with 5 grown kids, 2 daughter-in-laws, one grandchild and a great wife. There is never a dull moment at the Tankard Palace with plenty of comedy, love and life lessons to go around. You will love this show if you have ever heard these words from your own parents–‘I brought you into this world and I will take you out.’”
