Bravo TV’s ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ Star, Robyn Dixon, Discusses Her First Season as a Housewife

Baltimore-native Robyn Dixon is the epitome of ‘You can’t keep a good girl down!’

Robyn served as the ultimate wife to Juan during his seven-year NBA career. Soon after the birth of their two talented, athletic sons, now 7-year-old Corey and 6-year-old Carter, Dixon experienced a multitude of setbacks–divorce, financial loss, and bankruptcy. However, never one to give up or sit still, Dixon launched her career as a publicist and event manager at TAA PR, a public relations, marketing, and special-events boutique specializing in luxury lifestyle, fashion, and hospitality, in Washington, D.C. Currently, her story of survival, forgiveness, and resurgence can be seen on Bravo’s newest hit show, The Real Housewives of Potomac.

With the huge success of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Potomac, starring Dixon, and her passion for fashion and beauty, she is currently working on creating her own line of boys clothing and an activewear line, and has plans to create her own line of false lashes and cosmetic palettes for women. Presently, Dixon runs her personal lifestyle website, RobynDixon.com, where she blogs about all things mommy, fashion, fitness, beauty and health! Dixon discusses her experience as a cast member on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Potomac franchise.

BlackEnterprise.com: What it is like to be a part of the Real Housewives franchise.

Dixon: When we were filming the show, we didn’t know that our show was going to be a Real Housewives show. In filming the show, the working title for it was the Potomac Ensemble, six women in our daily lives interacting with other women. It felt somewhat like a Housewives show–it kind of followed the same formula, but they did not tell us what it was. It wasn’t until early November that we all had a conference call with the production company and they tell us, ‘Congratulations, Bravo loves you ladies and they want you to be The Real Housewives of Potomac. You will premiere in January and we will be making the announcement today.’ We were all stunned!!!!

On seeing her life played out on TV.

They send us the episodes about two days before so that you can write a blog response on Bravo. Watching myself on TV is very strange… I find myself saying, I should have said this, or I should have done that. Then you see what people are saying behind your back, and you are like oh, if I ‘d known she said this, then I would’ve checked her differently! But that is what the reunion is for, when you get to the reunion you are able to have a more open dialog and really address things. It’s surreal to see myself on TV.

What she hope’s the audience gained from her character on the show.

I just want people to know that I have been through a lot personally with my ex-husband and our relationship and finances, and it’s OK to not be perfect. You don’t have to live that perfect life, and you don’t have to be ashamed of making mistakes and stumbling or messing up. I really hope people can draw strength from that because I know people are going, have gone, or will go through something.
