It’s easy to get stuck in a rut. Once routines are established, going through the motions can become second nature. We can even become the most comfortable in the spaces that feel the least comfortable. Our lives are complex and the way we engage them, even more complex.
Since livelihood is a constant focus, our careers definitely take center stage. We want to be happy and enjoy making a life, but the path is not always easy or enjoyable. The good news is that if you’re experiencing a low point in your career, sometimes a few, well-placed words can make all the difference in the world.
Consider the following words of provocation and inspiration as a way to refocus and re-energize the way forward in your career:
“Never continue in a job you don’t enjoy. If you’re happy in what you’re doing, you’ll like yourself; you’ll have inner peace. And if you have that, along with physical health, you’ll have more success than you could possibly have imagined.” ~Roger Caras
“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”
“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” ~Michael Jordan
“Our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.” ~M. Scott Peck
“A mind that is stretched by new experiences can never go back to its old dimensions.”
~Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
“What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?”
~Dr. Robert Schuller
“If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would astound ourselves.”
~ Thomas A. Edison
“You know you are on the road to success if you would do your job, and not be paid for it.” ~ Oprah Winfrey
“If you have a talent, use it in every way possible. Don’t hoard it. Don’t dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.” ~Brendan Francis
“The supreme accomplishment is to blur the line between work and play.”
“You’re happiest while you’re making the greatest contribution.”
~Robert F. Kennedy
“Risk more than others think is safe. Care more than others think is wise. Dream more than others think is practical. Expect more than others think is possible.” ~Cadet Maxim
