“What are your salary requirements?”: Even though we work because we want to get paid, questions about salary are often surprising and uncomfortable to answer, especially during the first interview. If an employer asks about your salary requirements, it’s because they want to know if what you’re expecting is in the same range as what they’re offering. 


First, be honest in your response. There’s no need to state an extremely low salary if you know you aren’t willing to accept a job in that pay range.  At the same time, you don’t want to give a really high amount that you aren’t qualified for or that is unreasonable. Second, always give a range. “Based on my experienced and education, I am seeking a salary between $40,000-$50,000 per year.”
