5. Dress to the style of the company. Not every potential place of work is a suit and tie place (we’re not). In my line of work, I look for candidates who are trendy yet polished and presentable. Just because my business is young and hip doesn’t mean I want interns to come interview in cutoff shorts, but I do want to see their personality in their style.

    Good article. Especially the point about making a good impression with the manager’s assistant. Managers may ask their assistants what they thought of a candidate. I’ve seen that happen first hand. If you’re in college also work thru your school’s career counseling office as some top firms only take interns thru postsecondary schools.
