Chipotle to Offer Tuition Reimbursement to Workers

In hopes of increasing recruitment and retention, Chipotle Mexican Grill revealed it will offer new benefits to its employees, including tuition reimbursement.

Beginning July 1, the chain restaurant will improve its benefit package to hourly wage workers that will also include paid vacation time and paid sick leave. Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold said the company is always looking to attract new and fresh talent and hopefully its latest perks will work in its favor.

“We are always working to attract and retain the very best employees we can, and to helping develop our people so they can achieve their full potential,” CNBC reports him saying. “As part of that effort, we are changing our benefits package.”

Chipotle’s latest move is one that follows several other companies who have also implemented ways to draw in more employees. In April of this year, Starbucks announced it was expanding its tuition program to offer assistance for all four years of an employee’s college career rather than two. Also, in February, Walmart announced they were increasing their entry wage pay for workers to $9 an hour.

Arnold adds that in addition to Chipotle offering a great benefits package, the company also is improving its job growth opportunities for employees.

“These benefit changes come in addition to offering extraordinary opportunities,” he said. “Right now, more than 90 percent of our managers come from within the ranks of our crews. Last year alone, we promoted more than 10,500 people who started as crew into management positions.”
