Asia Horne and Chatoya Antwine are two millennial women on the move. Driven by a passion for providing entrepreneurial women with the necessary resources they need to unlock their future and take their brands to the next level, the dynamic duo created the Unlocked Summit.

On the heels of their upcoming tour kicking off on June 3 & 4 in Atlanta, Georgia, the dynamic duo caught up with Black Enterprise and shared 5 career tips for an aspiring girl boss:

Social media is more than just apps on your phone. Engage your audience. Comment, tweet and share. Be intentional with your conversations, and congratulate others on their accomplishments. To help you monitor the market and learn industry trends, follow successful brands and influencers in your industry. Also, hashtags are a gateway to your audience. Find popular hashtags that are aligned with your brand to expand your reach. Participating in Twitter Chats will help you connect with other girl bosses and begin to position you as an influencer. Host and watch periscopes to interact with your audience in real-time.

Your personal brand is your bond. Be mindful of what you post and who you align yourself with. It can have either a positive or negative effect on your brand. People trust those who know their stuff and have a proven track record of reliable knowledge, so study your niche market. Establish who your target audience is. Everyone isn’t your client, don’t agree to work with people just because they’re willing to pay.

Treat your brand like a business, not a hobby. Instead of splurging on food or that new bag you’ve been eyeing, invest in courses and resources that will help you grow your business.

Your network is truly your net worth. Make it a personal goal to attend at least 2-3 networking events each month. Create genuine relationships. Don’t always reach out to people just to get something off the bat. Mutually-beneficial partnerships are key. When it comes time to finally ask for help, do your best to make sure the other person gets something out of the deal. Follow up with a few of your network contacts and update them on things that are going on in your business, ask them if you can be of any assistance with upcoming events, or see if there is any way that you can support them on their upcoming projects.

Don’t wait for opportunities, create them.  Pitch your brand. You can’t expect people to support you if they don’t know about your business. You have to get out of your comfort zone and get over your fears if you want to be a successful girl boss.

Collaboration trumps competition. Instead of viewing others as competition, think of ways you both can collaborate. Don’t get discouraged when others are reaching success faster than you are. You don’t know what they’ve had to overcome to get where they are. As women in business, we have to realize that a win for one is a win for all. We have to learn how to lift each other as we climb the ladder to success. Genuine and sincere support goes a long way.
