Born and raised in greater London, Kwei-Armah is best known for playing the role of Finley Newton in the BBC drama Casualty.. He now serves as the artistic director of Baltimore Centerstage, the state theatre of Maryland.


Kwei- Armah's triptych of plays set in the Afro-Caribbean community includeElmina’s Kitchen, Fix up and Statement of Regret, premiered at the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain. Elmina’s Kitchen was transferred to the London’s West End in 2005, making him the first black British playwright to receive the honor. This year, Kwei-Armah has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to drama by The Queen in the Birthday Honours list.
