With his appointment as Chief Executive of Prudential plc in 2009, Thiam became the first black chief executive to run a FTSE 100 company.


A Légion d’Honneur awardee, Thiam spent the first part of his career in Paris and New York with McKinsey & Co. He then headed back to Africa, where he was CEO and later chairman of the National Bureau for Technical Studies and Development in Cote d’Ivoire. Thiam also sits on the Africa Progress Panel chaired by Kofi Annan and was appointed Chairman of The Association of British Insurers recently.
