MICHELLE OBAMA First Lady of the United States Mrs. Obama is a dynamic First Lady and partner to our nation's first Black president, Barack Obama. However, the Princeton University and Harvard Law School graduate continues to make her role as First Lady a memorable one. Though she may receive more press for her fashion influence, Mrs. Obama seems to much rather prefer using her clout for good to launch and support initiatives like Let's Move, which promotes exercise to battle childhood obesity and healthy eating, especially within underserved communities. POLISH PICK: Who's The Boss. This color is bold and engaging, just like Mrs. Obama. In addition to crafting a legacy of service, she has undoubtedly become a style icon, influencing designers and fashionistas worldwide. This color is perfect for anyone who appreciates a chic yet classic look.

Skilled orators are savvy marketers by definition. Take for instance, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter. The rapper-turned-businessman can deem a product cool or passé simply by how he flips it in a verse. But does Jay-Z co-signing a brand in rhyme necessarily equal a boost in its respective sales? Here, BlackEnterprise.com takes a look at some products that have been name-checked by the influential orator over the years, and how they fared in the aftermath. —Alvin Blanco (Images: Getty)

Russell Simmons is a lover of books. Not only did he recently release Super Rich: A Guide to Having it All, but the mogul (who is featured in the February 2011 issue of Black Enterprise) keeps his bookshelves jam packed with interesting reads. I took a peek while waiting for the crew to get the lights set for our Power Player interview with Simmons for the Black Enterprise Business Report and took note of what was there. Along with three Buddha statues, an ’80s hip-hop bobble head (complete with pseudo-Kangol and Adidas), a photo of his daughters, Ming Lee and Aoki Lee, with Oprah, and a bonsai tree that’s seen better days, Simmons’ office shelves offers a window into his soul—and his favorite reads. Here are 10 great books on Russell Simmons’ shelf. Tastemaker that he is, if Simmons loves it, it’s almost guaranteed to please!--Caroline Clarke
