Do you want to become the next Seth Godin, Steve Jobs or Daymond John? First you’ll need some pointers to help establish yourself as a thought leader in the era of digital technology. One disclaimer: having a blog does not make you a thought leader just like having an iPhone will not make you think like Steve Jobs.
In the end thought leadership has the ability to translate into revenue in the Web 2.0 world for infopreneurs (entrepreneurs who generate their revenue by creating content). The typical streams of income for thought leaders/infopreneurs come from creating products and creating experiences, like writing books, speaking at conferences/events, and creating other content products. Following Black Enterprise’s 20/20 Vision: Job Creation & Career Opportunities in The Next Economy with Wal-Mart in Los Angeles, CA earlier this week, this article will help individuals understand how to use digital technology, content curation and branding as a thought leadership strategy. —Hajj Flemings

While there I got the opportunity to meet (or interrupt depending on how you look at it) NBA player Dwyane Wade (@DwyaneWade) and his actress girlfriend Gabrielle Union (@ItsGabrielleU). Based upon my experience, I wanted to provide some helpful tips on how to properly interrupt a VIP’s dinner plans with technology. —Hajj Flemings

Privacy continues to be one of the top issues in sharing content on social networks. Recently, Facebook announced their new privacy settings and the redesign they are rolling out soon. Users started seeing the new privacy changes to the Web version Thursday, and the mobile roll-out of changes will happen soon after. An interesting question is what is driving the new Facebook privacy changes? Is it Google Plus or the need to provide users with a more contextual experience? The launch of Google Plus has intensified content-sharing privacy with their Google Circles functionality. The friendly competition with Google will hopefully continue to provide changes that will benefit the user. The other big plus is that these adjustments enable users to manage their profiles, which represent and reflect a portion of their online identity. ---Hajj Flemings

Give the People What They Want Not What You Want “[If] you go to GM and say, ‘What kind of car are you building?’ they’ll say, ‘We’re building a car that people want.’ But somehow you come to media and they say, ‘Oh, we’re not giving people what they want; the people are a bunch of idiots. How dare they ask for what they want?’ How could you possibly run an industry that’s motto is ‘We’re not giving the people what they want’? You have to look at [blogging] like any other business in which you want to be successful and profitable,” says Mwangaguhunga. “That means I’m going to look at my customers, find out what they want, find out what they like about this company and give them more of that. I’m also going to find out what they don’t like about this company and I’m going to give them less of that.”
