Chicago has been in the spotlight for an increased amount of gun violence in 2013. Many media outlets have portrayed it to be a terrible epidemic in the community which affects a great number of young people. writer Dr. Peter K.B. St. Jean dissects the progression of murder in Chicago from 1991 to 2011.

The 20 year progression breaks down the number of murders in the city, and the who, what, where, when and how of the murders. It covers how many of the cases were solved, what communities were affected, who were the victims and offenders, and when the highest amount of murders took place. His aim is to get a better picture of what is going on in the city based on what has happened in the past.
