Featured Stories – The Feature box displays the latest articles in a particular category in a large widget atop the landing page. This feature is set by setting the custom field “bigcolumn”. The value is set to “feature” followed by “=” and the category you want to pull from. Usage: “feature=lifestyle” or “feature=lifestyle=8” to display 8 posts from this category.
Hot Buttons: Custom Field is “hotbuttons”. The value is set by adding a list of hotbuttons separated by commas. Usage: “ec, wps, energy-forum, store”
Videos: Custom Field is “videos”. The value is set by adding a list of video ids separated by commas. Usage: “55007034001, 43157652001, 48482710001, 45945464001, 58805497001”
Left & Right Column Widget Options
Video Widget (no parameters. To display video on the page, you must add the “video” widget to your query sting, but in addition, you must add a custom field called “videos”. Content Feed (A feed, as defined here, is a list of latest articles/blogs. With that said, in order to add said list to a landing page, simply use the word “feed” and identify the category that you want the feed to pull from separated by an “=”. Lastly, by default the number of articles/blogs returned is set to “5”. This can be changed by adding another “=” followed by the number desired -not to exceed 10. Latest Magazine Issue Widget (This widget displays the latest version of the magazine, with a link to the cover story, and magazine sections. Usage: “magazine”)
Syndicated AP News Feed (This widget is still in production. This widget will display our AP syndicated content. Usage: “newsfeed”)
Poll (no Parameters. Polls will be set by the Interactive Department, but placement is the responsibility of the section editor. As soon as you’ve made the request for a poll to be created, ad the parameter “poll” to your query string. As soon as interactive sets it up, it will appear where indicated. Usage: “poll”)
Blogs (This widget will display the 5 lastest blogs with head-shots of the the blogger. Usage: “blogs”)
Query String Examples
video&feed=lifestyle=10&hotbuttons&stocks&feed=news – This displays a video, a list of the 10 most recent articles from the lifestyle section, the a hotbuttons widget, the market updates and stock widget, and the latest (5 is the default ) articles from the news section.
Setting the Poll
To setup a new poll, first, log into polldaddy.com and create the poll. Then, in wp-admin, open up the page titled “The Poll Page”. Select the custom field that corresponds to section where the poll is to live. In that custom field, enter the poll id, a “##” and the poll text as received from polldaddy. Update the page, and preview the page. Find the poll that was added and check for styling / template issues.
