Womack agrees: “A lot of biotech is done virtually until the human clinical testing stage.” He confirms that NanoVec spent about 50%of its cash flow in outsourcing its lab work and about 40%in legal fees to protect intellectual property. And a summer 2008 study by biotechnology analysts with the investment firm Turner Investment Partners in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, revealed that contract and clinical research outsourcing is projected to reach $29.4 billion by 2011, up from $16.3 billion in 2006.

Medical devices in demand

Further advances in surgical apparatuses and the discovery of safer and more flexible synthetic materials for implanted equipment are among the factors driving the growth in medical devices, according to Matthew Gardner, president and CEO of BayBio, a life science advocacy group in San Francisco.

“A lot of investment is going into high-reliability devices such as circuit boards and mainframes for medical devices that are not likely to be outsourced,” says Julian Harris, a research analyst with the consulting firm Frost & Sullivan in San Antonio. “These devices are found in minimally invasive surgery equipment and cardiovascular regulatory devices and have stricter quality standards.”

Gardner says that even in a bad economy, the development of new equipment remains resilient because product development takes a great deal longer than an economic cycle. And research funding from government agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health, that sustain medical research allows such development to continue on a positive growth curve. However, he adds that regulatory processes significantly prolong the time-to-market.

“Diagnostic devices often enjoy faster returns on investment and less regulatory restrictions than devices for surgery or treatment,” Gardner says.

I am looking for investors in a welding school that would specialize in tig welding of aluminum and stainless steel. This is primary in the production of solar systems and wind power production. Not only would i train them but also assist in employment. This is a trade that has many opportunities for women and young people of all races.

I am a strong believer that I should'nt attend college for four years just to work for someone else. I am a broadcast journalism major and I believe that I have a great idea that will promote young people in the inner city that has great talent but not enough resources to market themselves. My problem is that I dont know anything about writing a business plan or where I will get the capital to start this company. All I am asking for at this time is some advise on where I should start.

    Terrell,

How you doing man? Im in miami as well. Ive acquired quite a few businesses over the years. Two things that i can tell you to help you. 1) join your local chamber of commerce, as a great networking source, and 2) theres different ways to go about your business plan, but i will say, be very careful if u decide to have someone write it for you for a variety of reasons! I know! I learned the hardway.

Hit me up, we may can politic and work some things out. Im currently in school too, but maybe we can collab on some ideas, who knows.

We do youth enrichment, empowerment, activities, mental health and substance abuse wrap around case management services. We have been in business for about a year and a half but out of our own pockets. I write grants, bids, RPQ's and RPF's and am exstaticly exhausted from writing. What other ideas do you have to help us locate funding for this arena. We have pretty much covered most rocks and stones that we know of such as contacting our law makers in Arkansas, wrote a email/letter to the President and First Lady, contacted banks, charitable committees and etc. Please direct us further to winning more grants, contracts, and funding. 41. Hello. My goal is to own a Concrete Recycling Business. I have had a business plan for some time. I have researched this business and actually operated a business like this for fou (4) years, worked there for a total of six (6) years. I was a material specialist for 91/2 years before tha. In this business, you would collect concrete from demolished houses and buildings and crush it into crush & run stone that can be used for foundations, driveways, and to raise land. My husband is a heavy equipment operator who has operated all the equipment in this business for over eighteen (18) years. Our problem now is finding financing. We only get the run around---nothing that we could use to get us pointed in the right direction. Anyone know we need to do next? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Sarah Davis

  53. I am a 50-year-old African American male who would like for you to consider my story as a part of a regular feature in your magazine to inspire your readers.

I know firsthand about the need for healthcare and how expensive it can be. I had bad eating habits. I ate what I wanted, when I wanted, and as much as I wanted. As a result, I was diagnosed with Colon Cancer on March 31, 2005, where eighteen inches of my colon was removed. So, after months of radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, and then more chemotherapy, I became one of the fortunate ones, a cancer survivor. Thanks to the successful treatment I received from doctors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, I believed I had been given another chance to change my lifestyle for the better. I am convinced that if I had cleansed my colon, I could have saved over $350,000 in medical bills and this would not have been my story. My goal now is to help people avoid the pain, discomfort, and costs of cancer treatment. This is what inspired me to design and market the Lifedriven Cleanse the only all natural, antioxidant-enriched colonic and body detox treatment that is specially formulated by a Colon Cancer Survivor.

The idea behind cleansing your colon is to remove toxins, boost your digestive immune system, help you lose weight, and increase your energy. Because of the rising costs of health care, 47 million people in this wealthy country have little or no healthcare coverage at all. Colon cancer kills 17% more African Americans each year, than whites, despite its preventable nature. I challenge every American, especially African Americans, in 2010 to cleanse their colon. By eliminating toxins from the body you help reduce the risk of preventable disease and thereby, help lower the costs of healthcare.

By sharing this story, I hope to help decrease the diagnosis of preventable diseases in African Americans

I reviewed your site after reading your post and the first thing that I notice about your website was the look and feel. The look and feel of site did not appear to be professional looking. Secondly, there is anything that brings the user back to site (stickiness effect). So, I think if you had the site redesigned and added something that keeps the users involved and coming back to site you should have better success monetizing the site.

  65. We have certainly seen a substantial increase in funding for these fields, however one thing that this article failed to mention is many VC are beginning to focus on synergies between these different industries, allowing you to leverage the growth of more than one of them.

One great example is m-commerce or mobile commerce. Here you are combining both software and telecommunications and then making it mobile. Our company FanGo Software Systems has been is this space for more than 5 years, but we now see growth between 300-500% per year. Look for m-commerce to become a major industry in the near future.
