Day 3 of Women of Power Summit started with a bang! Multimedia Editorial Director Sonia Alleyne hosted an intimate One-On-One Conversation “The Courage to Be Powerful” with Judy Smith discussing how she lives her purpose through her work. Many of us may have been acquainted with Judy Smith through her character as Olivia Pope on ABC’s hit show “Scandal,” but aside from the character Judy Smith is considered to be America’s number 1 crisis and communications managers. She has worked on a number of high profile cases with clients such as Monica Lewinski, Kobe Bryant and Jesse Jackson Jr.
Judy Smith shared her story on how she came to do the work that she does, “I love what I do. I do it because I really like helping people navigate through a crisis.” In reference to her hit show, she also joked, “No, I don’t get Huck to kill people and I’ve never removed a dead body from a crime scene.”
For women who think they can have it all, she also stressed the importance of balance, “Draw balance about things that are important to you. I’m not one of those people who believes that you can have it all. You have to decide what’s important.”
Women of Power is about living fearlessly. Judy Smith lives this everyday through her work, but she knows she couldn’t do it without a strong sisterhood of support. She shared, “We (women) have to stand up and support one another and we have to show up for one another.”
