Ever thought about generating your own electricity? Now you can. With the backing of GE, Southwest Windpower unveiled the first fully smart grid-enabled wind turbine making it easy for consumers to connect their homes or businesses to wind-generated electricity. It can provide an average of 7,200 kWh of clean, low-cost energy per year per household. Depending on the wind resource, placement, and energy efficiency, a Skystream 600 could provide up to 80% of an average home’s energy requirements. The Skystream Skyview™ system, enables users to monitor exactly how much energy the wind turbine is producing from anywhere internet access is available. It will be available to the public this month. Pricing is yet to be announced.
