DAY 1: ABFF Kicks Off in New York City

DAY 1: ABFF Kicks Off in New York City

Today is the day—the 19th annual American Black Film Festival commences with a bang.

If you’re in New York City and ready to dive into the many festival happenings, here’s a little guide to set you on your way for today.

ABFF will kick off with the Hollywood Creative Forum EAST, a one-day career forum that will bring together diverse creative talent with executives from cable’s creative and business community to meet, greet, and exchange ideas. This forum lasts throughout the day and takes place at the NY Marriott Marquis.

If you’ve yet to register for the festival, swing by the NY Hilton: Rendezvous Trianon between 12:30pm — 8:30pm to get it done. You don’t want to miss out on these next few days!

The festival welcome will take place at the SVA Theatre at 7:15pm and will be followed by the New York premier of the highly anticipated film, Dope, at 7:30pm. There will be appearances by writer/director Rick Famuyiwa and cast members Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons, Chanel Iman, Blake Anderson and Quincy Brown.

To really kick the festival off right, swing by the Opening Night “Old School Hip-Hop” Party at Stage48, 10:30pm – 2:30am, with music by DJ D-Nice and a performance by Doug E. Fresh.

This should get your festival weekend experience off the ground. To keep up with it all, be sure to download the BE Events app. Available for iOS and Android, this app gives users full access to all kinds of information: screening info, event schedules, speakers, classes, general information, maps to event locations, sponsor information, and even a cool social media component that you may utilize to connect with other attendees.
