NBA Commissioner Said The NBA May Subsidize College Athletes

NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, has stated that he would support subsidizing NCAA college students in his effort to raise the age limit to enter the NBA to 20 from the current age of 19.

There has been recent debate on college players being paid on top of their athletic scholarships as the NCAA makes millions off of their abilities. With merchandising and other ways the NCAA makes money off their talent, the students, outside of a free education, don’t benefit from playing in the tournaments.

“Rather than focusing on a salary and thinking of them as employees, I would go to their basic necessities,” Silver said. “I think if Shabazz Napier is saying he is going hungry, my God, it seems hard to believe, but there should be ample food for the players.”
