Reginald F. Lewis Foundation Fundraiser Exceeds Million-Dollar Match Goal

Prominent figures in  business, sports, media and philanthropy came out for the Reginald F. Lewis Foundation Gala Luncheon at the Lewis Estate in East Hampton on Saturday, June 25, 2011. Event chair Leslie Lewis Sword, Lewis' eldest daughter, announced that this year’s gala raised more than $665,000 toward a $1 million endowment challenge grant from The Eddie C. and C. Sylvia Brown Family Foundation, in support of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture. Harvard Law School Bussey Professor Emeritus Frank E. A. Sander, who taught and mentored Lewis at Harvard Law, received the Millennium Member Award. Profit Investment Management CEO Eugene A. Profit received the Reginald F. Lewis Award, presented to an African American entrepreneur who has broken barriers to become internationally successful before the age of 50. —Alfred A. Edmond Jr.
