Designer Vivienne Westwood Calls First Lady’s Style “Dreadful”


British designer Vivienne Westwood, 71, took jabs at First Lady Michelle Obama during an interview with The New York Times about her new “Punk: Chaos to Couture” exhibition at the New York Metropolitan Museum.

The designer, who recently voiced her not-so-nice opinion on Dutchess Kate Middleton, was frank with the New York Times.

The New York Times: You must love our first lady, who is famous for recycling her clothes?

Westwood: Don’t talk about her. It’s dreadful what she wears.

The New York Times: What?

Westwood: I don’t want to talk about it. Really, I can’t. She’s a very nice looking lady, but it’s a nonstarter regarding clothes that suit her.

Westwood did have nice things to say about former First lady Jackie Kennedy.

“She was a different matter altogether,” Westwood said. “It just had to suit her and be something that makes a human being more glamorous.”
