Born and raised in greater London, Kwei-Armah is best known for playing the role of Finley Newton in the BBC dramaÂ Casualty.. He now serves as the artistic director of Baltimore Centerstage, the state theatre of Maryland.
Kwei- Armah's triptych of plays set in the Afro-Caribbean communityÂ includeElminaâ€™s Kitchen, Fix up and Statement of Regret, premiered at the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain. Elminaâ€™s Kitchen was transferred to the Londonâ€™s West End in 2005, making him the first black British playwright to receive the honor. This year, Kwei-Armah has been appointed an OfficerÂ of the Order of theÂ British EmpireÂ (OBE) for services to drama by The Queen in the Birthday Honours list.
