Jerry L. Johnson (pictured above) was named president of eMoney Advisor Inc., a developer of wealth management solutions for financial advisors, where he will oversee all corporate development and growth initiatives. Johnson was named one of BE’s 40 Most Powerful Black Executives in 1993.
Two additional lawsuits have been filed in the battle for slave reparations. The suits, which target 12 corporations, were filed in federal courts in New York and San Francisco. Similar suits are to be filed in Illinois, Texas, and Louisiana, according to activist Deadria Farmer-Paellmann who has led recent campaigns for corporate reparations. Chester and Timothy Hurdle, whose father was a slave, filed the suit in California. Edlee Bankhead, who at age 119 is also the son of a slave, filed the suit in New York. Companies named in the suits include: investment banks J.P.MorganChase & Co., Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., and Brown Brothers Harriman & Co.; insurers American International Group Inc. and Lloyd’s of London; tobacco and insurance giant Loews Corp.; railroad firms Union Pacific Corp. and Norfolk Southern Corp.; textile firm WestPoint Stevens Inc.; and tobacco makers R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Holdings Inc., Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp., and Liggett Group Inc.
Glory Foods’ board of directors named G. Barry Huff the company’s new president. In this position Huff will be responsible for developing marketing programs and services to increase brand awareness and sales for the Southern-style foods distributor. Huff takes the reins following the Dec. 27 death of the company’s co-founder and president, William F. Williams. Prior to coming to Glory Foods, Huff was vice president of sales and marketing at Hoopeston Foods Inc., a private label food processor based in Bloomington, Minnesota. Glory Foods was BLACK ENTERPRISE magazine’s 1996 Emerging Company of the Year and generated nearly $30 million in 2001. Black Enterprise/Greenwich Street Corporate Growth Partners, which is co-owned by Earl G. Graves Ltd., BE’s parent company, owns a stake in Glory Foods.
