After serving 27 years as the distinguished congressman from Berkeley, California, Ronald V. Dellums, 62, is hoping to distinguish himself yet again–this time in the private sector. Dellums recently accepted a position as president of Healthcare International Management Co. (HIM), owned by the Nashville, Tennessee-based Access Health Systems, an African American-owned HMO.
HIM specializes in establishing innovative and cost-effective healthcare delivery services to government and private sector entities in international markets. Its current focus is South Africa, where the company hopes to help public and private organizations develop strategies to deliver affordable healthcare. “Hopefully, my presence here gives people a clear sense that we’re a group with political awareness, social consciousness and cultural sensitivity,” says Dellums.
