More employers are responding to today’s evolving “family” and bringing domestic partners under the benefits umbrella. According to the Society for Human Resource Management, one out of 10 companies offers domestic partner benefits–a trend that is expected to continue as companies vie for talented employees who demand equitable benefit packages.
The most widely offered benefits include medical (85%), dental (74%) and vision (54%). In addition, almost half of companies provide benefits to opposite-sex and same-sex couples. To qualify, 42% of firms require proof of common residency and 38% require a notarized affidavit of partnership.
