Take action. If corporate reciprocity matters to you, stop supporting companies that don’t invest in the black community and start supporting those that do. Recommend these firms to your friends, co-workers and family (including your children), and tell them why. Also provide positive feedback-through letters, e-mail or phone calls-to companies that sponsor African American events, use black models and actively recruit African Americans as employees. Let companies know you notice, and they’ll be less inclined to take your dollars for granted.
