Nokia, meanwhile, is another overseas way to play the wireless phone revolution, says Joseph Tigue, managing editor of S&P’s The Outlook newsletter. Originally a paper products company, Finland’s Nokia has taken to cellular phones with a vengeance, recently surpassing U.S.-based Motorola as the largest producer of mobile phones. Tigue says Nokia’s earnings should rise 25% in 1999.
