Hotel rooms in New York City are hard to come by; Now, for the first time in 52 years, travelers have the option to stay in a luxury hotel in the borough of Brooklyn. The 374-room New York Marriott Brooklyn opens this summer on seven floors of the Renaissance Plaza, just five to 10 minutes from Wall Street. In close proximity are Long Island University and Brooklyn’s MetroTech Center and office complex, which houses Chase Manhattan Bank Headquarters, Polytechnic University, The Security Industries Automated Corp. and Bear Stearns. The hotel, one of eight Marriotts in the city, is located at 333 Adams St. (800-228-9290). It’s easily accessible from all major New York airports (about a $30 cab ride) and Manhattan by a $1.50 subway ride.
The hotel is geared toward business travelers, with 75 “Rooms That Work,” equipped with in-room work amenities’ concierge level rooms, and 10 suites. Travelers can find 27,000 sq. ft. of conference space, an 18,000-ft. grand ballroom, a health club with a 75-ft. swimming pool, a business center, valet parking garage and steakhouse restaurant. Rates range from $189 a night for a standard room to $229 for a deluxe with continental breakfast included. The price is comparable to Manhattan hotels, which average about $181 a night. Nearby attractions include Spike Lee’s Joint in trendy Fort Greene, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Brooklyn Museum and an array of ethnic restaurants, cafes and shopping centers.
