Despite the fact that one out of five companies uses the Internet to recruit, only 1% of employees are actually hired through cyberspace, according to a recent
survey by the William Olsten Center for Workforce Strategies in Melville, New York.
The study, which surveyed more than 600 corporate vice presidents and human resources directors, also revealed that 48% of employees are hired the old-fashioned way–through the classifieds. The high-tech sector (67%) does the most online recruiting, with 4% of applicants hired this way. Insurance (23%), utilities (15%), manufacturing (11%) and health care (9%) companies lag far behind in their online recruiting efforts.
