Where can you find new talent that will stick around at your company? According to a survey conducted last summer by the Society of Human Resource Research, most human resources executives still believe help-wanted ads are the most effective source of new hires. But the facts don’t necessarily bear them out.
Researchers at Ohio State University found that new hires were more likely to stay at least a year if they were recruited from the inside, rather than through ads or employment agencies. After reexamining data from 28 studies involving nearly 40,000 employees, the researchers found that companies can actually increase the survival rate of new hires by 25% or more if they rely on inside sources instead-former employees, recommendations from current staff and internal job postings, for example.
