Struggling Up The Legal Ladder

Minorities in corporate law departments are still fighting to break through the glass ceiling. According to a Minority Corporate Counsel Association survey of 206 Fortune 1,000 firms, 62% didn’t have a minority attorney who reports directly to the general counsel. In addition, 46% didn’t have a minority attorney in management, and 26% didn’t have any minorities in their department.

A corresponding telephone survey of 498 of the nation’s largest companies found that only 10 African Americans were employed as general counsels.
