The Computer Industry Show Of Shows

Comdex Fall'97 boasts the biggest names in information technology

Later this month, mavens of the computer world will descend on Las Vegas in droves. But the casino will play second fiddle to the showroom floor. Comdex, the world’s largest information technology (IT) conference will be in town November 17-21 for its 1997 incarnation. Everybody who is anybody in the computer world will be there, or at least send a considerable number of their minions. The attendees and speakers list reads like a who’s who of the computer industry.

Microsoft Chairman and CEO Bill Gates, Compaq Computer President and CEO Eckhard Pfeiffer and Cisco Systems President and CEO John T. Chambers are this year’s keynote speakers. And you can expect to see exhibits from nearly every major computer vendor. For many companies Comdex provides an ideal backdrop for the unveiling of their latest and greatest products. This year’s show will boast 10,000 new products and 2,100 exhibitors. Where else would they get such a huge, captive and infinitely interested audience? Last year’s convention attracted over 210,000 attendees.

Far from just a hot product showcase, Comdex has panels and forums on topics ranging from profiting from online business ventures to the real scoop on network computers. Aspiring IT entrepreneurs can make their way to the venture capital forum for ideas and insight on raising start-up dollars. Anyone responsible for implementing technology solutions within their company or organization will find a host of new technologies that will help their quest — and some older ones too.

If you can’t make the trip to Vegas, hop on the Web and point your browser to blackenterprise.com for daily updates on the show. There’s also a spring edition of the show to be held in Chicago in April 1998. For more information, check out wvvw. comdex.com or call 617-433- 1650.
