If you want to visit Africa in celebration of Black History Month but are concerned about the cost, the following package deals may ease your mind–and your wallet. The agency also offers a South Africa Good Hope Tour February 13-23 for $2.899-$3,019, depending on departure city. Ghana Airways offers a deal through the New York chapter of the Africa Travel Association (ATA) to Ghana, the birthplace of the Ashanti Empire, February 14-21 for $1,299. Several chapters of the ATA (212- 447-1926) will also sponsor various pilgrimages to Benin in February. Call for dates and tour packages. Air Afrique has an ongoing special $999 tour to West Africa, which you can arrange through your travel agent. E-Z Tours (212-24621 116/800-348-7200) is the agent for Hal Jackson’s Sunday Classics Ghana Tour, February 14-21. The seven-day trip costs $1,599 (double occupancy).
Packages include airfare, hotel, tours and some meals. Many require early deposits and final payments by mid-January. “We started taking deposits in September, and final payments will be made a month before travel time, but you can still find spaces available,” says Selma Edwards, owner of E-Z Tours, which offers trips year-round. If you’re too late this February, a number of tour agents offer year-long historical and cultural tours of Africa; ask your travel agent.
