Beatrice J. Hanks is Sr. VP/Circulation for BLACK ENTERPRISE magazine and a senior vice president of Earl G. Graves Publishing Co. Inc., the publication’s parent company. She is responsible for managing and directing circulation activities, including direct response marketing, fulfillment, and magazine newsstand management.
Prior to joining BLACK ENTERPRISE, Ms. Hanks was the director of circulation and database marketing at Individual Investor Group, a New York City-based financial publishing company. There she was responsible for all subscription activities, newsstand sales, list rentals, ancillary revenue programs, and database building.
Ms. Hanks began her career in the research division of The Hearst Corporation, one of the world’s largest private publishing, broadcasting, and communications companies. She later joined Publishers Clearing House as an account executive. Since then, Ms. Hanks has held positions with several publishing houses, including General Media International, the parent company of General Media Inc. and publisher of Penthouse magazine and several automotive magazines.
Ms. Hanks was also co-founder, president, and publisher of New York Sports magazine, a bimonthly title focused on major spectator sports. Published from 1983 to 1985, the premiere issue of the publication outsold all national sports magazines on newsstands.
The recipient of Circulation Management magazine’s 2000 Circulation Excellence Award, Ms. Hanks is a frequent lecturer at industry seminars conducted by the Magazine Publishers of America, Folio, Circulation Management magazine, and the Fulfillment Management Association.
Ms. Hanks is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College and holds a graduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Fulfillment Management Association.
Ms. Hanks currently resides in New York City with her family.
