Attention Walmart Shoppers: Introducing Walmart Pay

Walmart just launched its own mobile payment solution, Walmart Pay. With the launch, Walmart is currently the only retailer with its own mobile-payment app that works on both iOS and Android.

At a Walmart register, customers open the app, choose “Walmart Pay,” and then activate the camera. Scan the code displayed at the register and Walmart Pay is connected. The item is scanned and bagged by a sales associate and the customer is sent an e-receipt.

Walmart Pay can be linked to all major methods of payment, including credit and debit cards, as well as pre-paid and Walmart gift cards.

”The Walmart app was built to make shopping faster and easier,” said Neil Ashe, president and CEO of Walmart Global eCommerce. “Walmart Pay is the latest example — and a powerful addition — of how we are transforming the shopping experience by seamlessly connecting online, mobile, and stores for the 140 million customers who shop with us weekly.”

Customers in select stores will be able to use Walmart Pay beginning this month. A complete roll-out to all Walmart stores will be completed by the first half of 2016. Walmart Pay is the latest competitor in the digital wallet market, which includes Apple Pay and Android Pay.

“The simplicity and ease of Walmart Pay comes not only from how it works, but also in how it’s been built,” said Daniel Eckert, senior vice president, services, Walmart U.S.  “We made a strategic decision to design Walmart Pay to work with almost any smartphone and accept almost any payment type — even allowing for the integration of other mobile wallets in the future. The result is an innovation that will make the ease of mobile payments a reality for millions of Americans.”
