Rapper Ja Rule to Be Released from Jail in July

Rapper set to be released after serving two-year sentence.

Rapper Ja Rule’s time in the slammer may finally come to an end. According to the Associated Press, the 36-year-old rapper (real name Jeffery Atkins) from Queens is set for a July release date.

The platinum-selling artist left a state prison in central New York last week after serving a majority of his two-year sentence for illegal gun possession and later went into federal custody for a tax evasion case, after failing to pay more than $3 million earned between 2004 and 2006.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Ja Rule was moved from an upstate jail to Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, which houses prisoners awaiting court dates or having short terms left on their sentences. He is expected to be released on July 28.
