identifies a suspicious application, they separate it out, flag it for election officials, and provide a cover sheet identifying the nature of the problem and an offer to provide election officials with the information they would need to pursue an investigation or prosecution of the individual.
ACORN employees are under investigation in 13 different states including Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Many of these investigations are thought to be initiated by Republican leaders who do not wish to have so many new registrants who are likely to vote Democratic. The GOP created the Barack Obama Acorn Tree which links Obama’s campaign money, legal work and activities as a community organizer to ACORN.
Incidentally, ACORN said in a statement yesterday that McCain’s recent attacks on their organization is puzzling considering that as recently as Feb. 20, 2006, McCain was the keynote speaker at an ACORN-sponsored Immigration Rally at Miami Dade College.
