Millions of People Join ‘Make a Difference Day’ on October 24

Here's how you can get involved, too.

On October 24, millions of people across the nation will take part in community service projects in their very own neighborhoods. Make a Difference Day, a USA Today initiative, is the largest national day of community service and volunteerism; dedicated to improving the lives of others. Are you ready to make a difference? If so, search USA Today Make a Difference platform to find activities in your area.

Georgia
Kinchafoonee Primary School Outdoor Classroom Workday
295 Leslie Hwy, Leesburg, GA
To help maintain, beautify, and improve the outdoor classrooms at Kinchafoonee Primary School (KPS),  this project will help K-12 students learn about science/nature. Activities include planting flowers, repairing existing structures, and cleaning goldfish ponds.

Shape Up the Shelves with the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System
Buckhead Library

Help the library accomplish, in a short time, tasks which otherwise might take weeks or months. This project will help our staff serve more patrons.

New York
Painting Party at Frederick Samuel Community Center

Help uplift the current ‘gloomy’ look that has enshrouded the community center’s physical appearance.

New Jersey
Adventures with Amelia: MCC Reads
Middlesex County College
2600 Woodbridge Avenue, Edison, NJ
Get children excited about reading! In addition to meeting author Herman Parish, MCC professors and student volunteers will read to the children and then conduct an activity related to the reading.

Washington D.C.,
Playworks Playground Paint at Malcolm X Elementary
By painting and cleaning, the organization seeks to help organize the school which will help teachers focus on teaching.

The Cleaner Ward 7 initiative in DC
This project aims to help the residents of Ward 7 Washington D.C. by producing cleaner parks.

KPWB Hypothermia Shelter Cleanup
There are roughly 50 men, women, and families in the city’s homeless population seeking protection between November 1 and March 31 from the harsh temperatures of the fall and winter months.The Hypothermia Shelter Clean Sweep is a large-scale cleanup effort to clear the area near one of these seasonal shelters of litter and debris.

Los Angeles, California
2015 Day Of Service Feeding Homeless US Veterans

This project will provide free haircuts ($10 donation per haircut) to the thousands of U.S. vets living on the streets of Los Angeles.

Irvington Presbyterian Church

Donate 1 lb jars of Peanut Butter: Tri-City Free Breakfast Program. Your donation of 1 pound jars of peanut butter provides protein to the poor and homeless in communities through the Tri-City area.
