Mostly White, All-Female Jury Chosen for George Zimmerman Trial

An all-female, predominately-white jury has been chosen for the trial of George Zimmerman in the death of 17 year old Trayvon Martin.

The jury of six—which includes five white women and one woman who identifies as Hispanic—was whittled down from an applicant pool of 211. They will decide whether 29 year old Zimmerman is guilty of 2nd degree murder in a case so high-profile that the names of the jurors are being kept secret and will continue to be secret for a time after the trial. The jury will also be sequestered during the duration of the trial.

Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty. The self-appointed neighborhood watchman says he killed the African American teen in self-defense. Opening statements begin Monday.
