Rev. Al Sharpton Comments on CNN False Arrest Statements


Yesterday, media outlets were a buzz with a report that an arrest had been made in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings. CNN reported that sources described the bomber as a “dark-skinned male.” It was later confirmed by various other news sources including CNN, who recanted their earlier declaration, that no arrests were made.

The pressure associated with finding out who is responsible for the bombings seemed to lead to a frenzy among media outlets to get coverage out first. This lead to several false statements.

Rev. Al Sharpton responded to CNN’s statement citing it as irresponsible journalism. Here is some of what he had to say.

“The false reporting by the media in the Boston bombing case was offensive and inflammatory, including specific references by CNN’s John King who labeled the alleged suspect as a “dark-skinned male,” perpetuating a stereotypical characterization devoid of relevant facts about the suspect’s identity.”
