NFL Wants Artists to ‘Pay-To-Play’ to Perform at Super Bowl Halftime Show

According to The Verge, the NFL is considering charging artists to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. Performers have been narrowed down to Coldplay, Rihanna, and Katy Perry.

The NFL has reportedly made an unprecedented request to the three performers asking if they’d be “willing to contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league, or if they would make some other type of financial contribution” to headline the 2015 halftime show.

The chosen artists are not receptive to the idea of being “extorted” for the chance to play in front of the typically largest TV audience the game usually draws, although Rihanna stands to benefit the most since she has a planned-release around that time.
