The February 1971 BLACK ENTERPRISE cover story, “The Returning G.I,.”  dealt with the problems of black Vietnam War veterans in a society that was ill-equipped to reintegrate them. The result: many traded firefights in Southeast Asian for unemployment lines in urban hubs. Their economic plight mirrors that of today’s veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars as they seek to find decent jobs or gain financing to start businesses.
