The emphasis is on marketing and advertising because while a franchisee can gain financing to stay in business, he or she will fail if potential customers don’t know the business exists. The ideal franchisor provides additional training and support to franchisees, educates them on connecting with people within their respective city’s economic development office, and demonstrates how to access the business resources in their community. They also help them learn about tax breaks and tax credits available. All are ongoing efforts that will affect the franchisee’s bottom line beyond the first year with long-term implications.
