Documentary filmmaker Aaron Ranen released the 2006 DVD, Black Hair: The Korean Takeover of the Black Hair Care Industry, which he billed as an expose on how Koreans dominate 80% of black beauty supply distribution. In the film, it was reported that black women purchased 70% of all wigs and hair extensions. It was also found that many of the leading black haircare trade publications were written in Korean.
