Company to Provide Scholarships for Minority Women to Attend Women 2.0 Conference

Oakland based investment fund Kapor Capital is sponsoring ten scholarships for women of color who are otherwise financially unable to attend Women 2.0’s annual conference on February 14th. Kapor has previously provided scholarships to women of color for other events such as PITCH NYC.

Kapor Capital is an investment fund based in Oakland that invests in seed stage information technology companies which aspire to generate economic value and positive social impact, according to their website. They also invest in the education, health and consumer finance sectors.

The team at Kapor Capital comprises a diverse group of individuals with entrepreneurial backgrounds, including Mitchell Kapor, the designer of Lotus 1-2-3 and the founding chair of the Mozilla Foundation. Kapor Capital partner Freada Kapor Klein will be speaking at the conference in an afternoon panel about the funding landscape for entrepreneurs.

The theme of this year’s Women 2.0 Conference is “The Next Billion” and is a “must-attend” conference for investors, entrepreneurs, engineers and others focusing on up-and-coming trends. Over 800 attendees are expected and the focus will be on supporting the fastest-growing demographic in the startup space — women. Attendees will learn from case studies and talks by successful women executives and founders of technology companies.

The first batch of scholarships will be awarded on January 17, 2013
