Not only did BLACK ENTERPRISE select Harpo Inc. as the 2008 Industrial/Service Company of the Year but it was the first time that billionaire entrepreneur Oprah Winfrey spoke to the press in detail about her business empire. At the time, the dynamo was still developing Oprah Winfrey Network or OWN, asserting that  divine inspiration, not strategic planning, drove her company’s success. She also admitted that it took a solid business team and sound financial controls to grow her entity from a five-person production company to a 430-employee multimedia conglomerate. Moreover, she owns every piece of her franchise: the content, name, brand and studio.

This Sunday, February 26, 2012, the 84th annual Academy Awards will be held in Hollywood, gathering together all of the film industry’s biggest names. While Eddie Murphy, who backed out on hosting duties, might be absent, there will be a plethora of African American actors and actresses both as attendees and nominees. Namely, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer, who both earned nods for their exceptional work in The Help. Trump Presents The Ultimate Merger, held at Trump Tower in New York City on Monday, June 14. On June 17 cable television company TV One (ranked No. 44 on the BE 100s Industrial/Service list) debuted The Ultimate Merger reality series. This Thursday, June 24, TV One will re-air the 90-minute first episode at 8:30 p.m. EST, followed by a one-hour second episode at 10:00 p.m.
