Since 2009, Saran Kaba Jones has raised more than $250,000 for clean water projects in Liberia with via her nonprofit, FACE Africa, and partners including the Voss Foundation, JP MorganChase Community Giving, P&G’s Covergirl, The Global Neighborhood Fund, Chevron, the Coca-Cola Co., and The Segal Family Foundation.

"I'm continuing in the legacy of my father, who always stressed to me about reaching back and being of service," Jones said at the event, which was held at New York's beautiful Chelsea Piers. For her work, Jones has been listed by the Guardian UK as one of Africa's 25 Top Women Achievers, alongside President Joyce Banda of Malawi and Nobel Laureate Leymah  Gbowee and was named a 2013 World Economic Forum Young Global Leader.

"What I wanted to do was connect women of color globally to define  the world on their terms," said Simone Bresi-Ando, far right, founder of I'mPOSSIBLE, whose career and motivation conversations started in the U.K. via Google Hangouts and events. With her social enterprise, Bresi-Ando seeks to educate, connect and empower young women of color by celebrating, highlighting and promoting the achievements of women from all ethnic backgrounds, showcasing their life stories and successes.

"There's something Lupita N'yong'o said that I just can't get out of my mind. The phrase she used was 'the seduction of inadequacy,' and it struck me---stopped me in tracks," said Bresi-Ando. "We are so used to being seduced by inadequacy. What I want to ask you today is, could you please stop it? Now, we can be seduced by the possible."

Janan Shakur aspired to live abroad to gain a different experience of life beyond U.S. shores. She decided to attend an American university in Switzerland which included opportunities to travel as part of its academic curriculum.


Influenced by her own culture and diverse travels, Shakur went on to become a fashion entrepreneur, founding Casa di Culture, an online boutique she runs while living and working in Vaud, Switzerland.
